What this Airport Offers You
Syracuse Hancock International Airport is not a large airport, with under two dozen gates, which keeps navigation within the airport simple. Picture a square with the top missing, leaving three sides, as the layout for the airport. The main terminal makes up the 'bottom' side and includes all ticketing counters, ground transportation, security and baggage claims on the lower floor, with several wheelchair accessible elevators and escalators to take you to the second floor. Two terminals, A and B, make up the two other 'sides' of the airport on this second floor, along with most eateries. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport, with at least one wireless hotspot in each terminal, and a private space for active-duty military personnel.
What this Airport Doesn't Offer You
Although they are an international airport, Syracuse Hancock is not an airline hub, with barely over 15 direct flights options available. If you are connecting at this airport with a flight in the same terminal you arrive at, you'll have limited options for food, drink, and goods unless you walk to the main terminal. The walk isn't far, past 10 gates at the most, but might be inconvenient based on limited mobility or time constraints. If you're arriving via ground transportation, you won't be able to find an eatery until after you've passed security and get up to the main terminal on the second level.
What Will Keep You Entertained at this Airport
Laid out like a mall food court, you'll find a decent selection of eateries in the main terminal. Grab a hamburger at Johnny Rockets, a refreshing smoothie at Jamba Juice, or visit the small market at the entrance to each concourse. For some unique beer selections, they have the Middle Ages Brewing Company in both concourses. On the main floor by the security check stations is an amazing exhibit that opened in 1996 called Discover the Airport. Interactive displays and real landing gear to operate lets you feel like a pilot. To cozy up with some furry friends, there's a PET (Pets Easing Travelers) Program. Just look for the volunteers in yellow shirts with dogs wearing yellow vests and bandanas!
A Beautiful Gesture Behind Syracuse Hancock Airport
A local man named Gregory J. Harris attended West Genesee High School just 15 miles from Syracuse Hancock Airport. After he graduated in 1963, Gregory Harris joined the Military and was soon Corporal Harris. In June of 1966 during the Vietnam War, he was captured. The Syracuse Hancock International Airport has a Courtesy Room for active-duty military personnel, meant to be a comfortable spot to relax with a complimentary bite to eat, dedicated in honor of this brave Marine. Corporal Gregory J. Harris will not be forgotten.
